What is an ESW1 form & Survey?

Buildings in the UK & specifically those where people live in need to a safe environment for all those living and attending them. EWS1 forms where developed following the investigation into the tragedy at Grenfell Tower it is clear that some properties do not meet the minimum Fire safety requirements both internally and externally.

As fire can spread up through a building externally the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveys (RICS) and other industry groups organised the inception of an external wall survey using the EWS1 form.

From a Passive Fire perspective, should there be no or inadequate cavity fire barriers installed the normal process would be to construct expensive scaffolding, remove the majority of the cladding and install a cavity fire barrier.
